Should My Small Business Have HRIS Software?
Modified By mkirkendall on 7/1/2009 8:06:03 PM)

First of all, what is HRIS?  HRIS stands for Human Resource Information System.  Another common term for HR Software is HRMS - Human Resource Management System.

Anyway, if you have employees, you probably should have an HRIS.

The reason for this post is many small businesses over look the need for software to manage employee information and end up using spreadsheets or paper files to manage this important information.

Small businesses can benefit from having software to manage their employee data. The benefits include quick access to information, government compliance, easy reporting, improved efficiency and more. From a Risk Management point of view, avoiding costly fines by ensuring government compliance alone is a good reason to use an HRIS system ensuring you are compliant for I9, EEOC and more. Easily manage employee demographics, benefits, performance appraisals and much more.

Often small business owners track employee data in spreadsheets, but this quickly becomes cumbersome and difficult when tracking historic information and other related data that can have many rows for one employee (e.g. Training Records, Benefit Information etc.)

There are a number of HRIS systems on the market that work well for small and medium businesses. You can easily find them by performing an internet search. Pick a few vendors whose product interests you and see if they have a free trial available. Don’t get caught short on this important topic.  CalaverasIT has developed a great HRIS product created using Microsoft Access 2007 - The HR Data Manager (www.hrdatamanager.com) is an affordable HR Software solution for Small Business.  Click Here for more information about the HR Data Manager.  Feel free to check it out and give the FREE 30 Day trial a try.

Have a great day!
