Technology and the Swine Flu

While this post does not relate specifically to computers, it is interesting to see how Japan has employed technology to help stop the spread of the new Swine Flu.

The Japanese have deployed thermal body temperature cameras in their Airports and are analyzing body heat of passengers returning from Mexico.  If the camera detects elevated body temperature (Fever), the person can be pulled aside for further screening prior to continuing on their way.

We have no way of knowing how mild or severe this outbreak will turn out to be, but it is certainly interesting to see some of the tools we have to deal with it that were not availalbe back in the 1918 outbreak of the Spanish Flu.
