Computer Spring Cleaning

Well, Spring is here and what better time to make sure your computer is running as it should.

If you have noticed that your computer is running slower than it used to or that it virtually comes to a halt when doing things that should take but a moment, it is probably time to have it looked at. If you are part of a larger sized organization with an IT department you should put in a help desk ticket asking them to take a look at it. If you are in a smaller organization without the luxury of an IT department you can either do it yourself, or have a local PC technician come out and service it for you.

We tend to be very good about having car serviced every few thousand miles, but no thought is usually given to computer maintenance. Over time Windows and Internet temporary files can clutter the hard drive causing slower performance. Files on the hard drive also become fragmented over time making it slower for the machine to access them. Depending on the level of security on your computer, Viruses and Spyware can wreak havock and bring a computer to a grinding halt.

It is a good idea to regularly delete Windows and Internet temporary files, Defragment your hard drive, and ensure your Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware software is up to date and performing as it should.Regular computer maintenance will increase efficiency in the workplace and help ensure you are concentrating on your job rather than the hourglass on your computer.
